This guide will explain how to get firewood and where to find it in Skyrim.

How to Get Firewood in Skyrim

You can find some ready-made firewood at Highpoint Tower and Volkihar Dungeons, located under the Volkihar Castle, Haafingar.

However, the best way to get firewood in Skyrim is to use a woodcutter’s axe at wood chopping blocks that are scattered all over.

Once you get the axe, you can chop wood blocks, yielding 2x Firewood per chop. One woodcutting session equals 3 chops and 6x Firewood respectively. This process takes about 30 seconds.

Wood Chopping Blocks

Here are all the locations of wood chopping blocks in Skyrim:

Woodcutter’s Axe

Players can’t craft or purchase a woodcutter’s axe, but you can simply find and pick up this tool at the following locations:

Poacher’s Axe

Alternatively, you could get the Poacher’s Axe, which is a unique woodcutter’s axe that can also be used for getting firewood.

Besides being able to chop firewood, it can also deal extra damage to animals due to Huntsman Prowess enchantment.

There are two locations, where you can get the Poacher’s Axe:

Halted Stream Camp Riverwood, Whiterun

Halted Stream Camp is a bandit camp located northwest of Whitewatch Tower in the Whiterun hold (indicated by the red marker on the map above). Usually, one of the orc bandits carries the Poacher’s Axe next to a grind stone or inside the mine. You can easily defeat him and take hold of the axe.

If you don’t want to get involved with the bandits, then you can seek out the Riverwood Trader (indicated by the green marker on the map above) named Lucan Valerius at Riverwood, Whiterun. He can sell you the Poacher’s Axe for about 30 gold coins.
