In a 26-minute-long direct, Nintendo revealed the two aforementioned characters as newcomers, along with a host of other content and features coming with the game, which is set to release on December 7.
Simon Belmont hails from the Castlevania series and brings his signature whip and a handful of secondary weapons from the series as special attacks.
With him come an iteration of Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night as an Assist Trophy and Richter Belmont as an Echo fighter, Ultimate’s new alternate skin feature. If you’re excited for this character, you absolutely must watch the first minute and a half of the Nintendo Direct (in the header) for some additional hype.
Also rolling into battle is King K. Rool from the Donkey Kong Country games. A much-demanded addition to the roster, you can see King K. Rool’s cinematic reveal around the 24:45 mark in the Direct.
These two newcomers aren’t the only things to get excited for in this Smash-centric Direct. New modes such as Smashdown, Tourney, and Squad Strike are being added to this iteration. New options are also coming, such as Stage Morph, which will allow players to transition between two separate stages with no interruptions; and the ability to choose your music from a stage’s franchise on stage select.
The above additions are certainly not all that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is bringing to the table. Be sure to watch the Nintendo Direct in its entirety for all the new juicy details on Ultimate, and get your wallet ready for its release this December on the Nintendo Switch.
